Stage 3 melanoma
Stage 3 melanoma is melanoma that has spread to one or more of the lymph nodes near to where the tumor started. These are called the regional lymph nodes. There is no sign that it has spread to lymph nodes further away, or to other parts of the body.
Stage 3 is divided into stage 3A, 3B and 3C. Each covers several different situations, depending on:
- the thickness of the tumor
- whether it is ulcerated
- how many lymph nodes are affected
- the size of the cancerous areas (called metastases) found in the lymph nodes
In stage 2 there is no sign that the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body.
