Stage 0 or in situ melanoma

In Stage 0 melanoma, the cancer is limited to the top layer of the skin, the epidermis. It has not grown down into the lower layer (the dermis). Stage 0 is also called melanoma in situ. In situ is Latin for ‘in place’. It is sometimes abbreviated to ‘Tis’, meaning tumor in situ.

The risk of stage 0 melanoma coming back after treatment is very low.
