Melanoma treatment and ASCI*

Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer. Unlike most other skin cancers, it can spread to other parts of the body if it is not found and treated early. The number of cases of melanoma has been rising steadily for several decades in many Western countries. Melanoma is divided into five stages, numbered 0 to 4. Melanoma treatment depends on the stage of the cancer. The main treatment is surgery to remove the tumor.
Chemotherapy and other drugs are used in addition to surgery in more advanced disease. Immunotherapy is another type of treatment for melanoma.

ASCI* : a potential new treatment approach for melanoma

ASCI* is a new approach to a type of cancer treatment called immunotherapy. It combines a cancer-specific antigen (called MAGE-A3) and an immune reaction booster (called an Adjuvant System).

A large-scale clinical study called DERMA, involving around 1,300 patients in centers around the world, has started recently. The purpose of this study is to assess how well ASCI* works in the treatment of patients with melanoma that has spread to the lymph nodes, after an operation to remove the tumor, and the side-effects it may cause. If you are interested in participating, why not discuss it with your doctor? You can use the link on the right of this page to get more information about the DERMA study.
