Stage 2 lung cancer

Stage 2 lung cancer* is divided into two parts :

  • Stage 2A: the cancer is small, but has spread into the lymph nodes nearest to the affected lung
  • Stage 2B: this stage covers two situations. It can mean that the cancer has spread to the nearest lymph node and is larger than 3 cm (1.2 inches) across. Or, that it has grown into the chest wall, the outer covering of the lung, the outer covering of the heart, or the diaphragm. The diaphragm is the muscle that divides the chest from the abdomen.
  • Along with Stage 1, Stage 2 lung cancer is classed as “early disease”.

*staging information refers to NSCLC only
