Stage 1 lung cancer
In Stage 1 lung cancer*, the cancer has not spread outside the lung. So there is no cancer in the lymph nodes or other organs. Stages 1 and 2 lung cancer are sometimes called “early disease”. Stage 1 lung cancer is divided into two parts:
- Stage 1A : the tumor is small, measuring not more than 3 cm (1.2 inches) across
- Stage 1B : the tumor is either over 3 cm (1.2 inches) across, or is growing in the main airway of the lung. This stage also includes tumors that have grown into the lung’s inner lining, leading to a partially collapsed lung.
*staging information refers to NSCLC only
