Lung cancer treatment and ASCI*

Lung cancer is a huge medical challenge: worldwide it causes more than 1.3 million deaths a year and is the leading cause of cancer death in men. There are two main types of lung cancer depending on the size of the cancer cells: small cell and non-small cell lung cancer. Lung cancer is divided into five stages, called 1, 2, 3a, 3b and 4.

Lung cancer treatment depends on the stage of the cancer. It usually combines one or more of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Immunotherapy is being studied in clinical trials as a potential new form of treatment for non-small cell lung cancer.

ASCI* : a potential new treatment approach for lung cancer

ASCI* is a new approach to a type of lung cancer treatment called immunotherapy. It combines a cancer-specific antigen (called MAGE-A3) and an immune reaction booster (called an Adjuvant System).

A large-scale clinical study called MAGRIT , involving around 2300 patients in 400 centers worldwide, has started recently. The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and effectiveness of ASCI* in the treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer after an operation to remove the tumor. If you are interested in participating, why not discuss it with your doctor? You can use the link on the right of this page to get more information about the MAGRIT study.
