Cancer treatment
There are three main types of treatment for cancer: surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Recently, medical science has developed additional new treatments for some types of cancer that identify and attack cancer cells. These include hormone therapy, and targeted therapies such as monoclonal antibodies. Another new approach under development is immunotherapy.
The choice of treatment depends on the type of cancer, and its stage and grade. Doctors will also take into account the patient’s overall health, previous medical history and personal preferences, and any other relevant factors.
Very often doctors will prescribe a program involving different types of cancer treatment in combination with each other.
