Cancer treatment
There are three main types of treatment for cancer: surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Recently, medical science has developed additional new treatments for some types of cancer that identify and attack cancer cells, such as hormone therapy and targeted therapies such as use of monoclonal antibodies. Another new approach under development is “immunotherapy”.
The choice of treatment depends on the type of cancer, and its stage and grade. Doctors will also take into account the patient’s overall health condition, previous medical history and any other factors judged relevant.
Very often a doctor will prescribe a program involving different types of treatment in combination with each other.
