ASCI in treatment of cancer
Lung cancer is a huge medical challenge: worldwide it causes more than 1.3 million deaths a year and is the leading cause of cancer death in men.
There are two main subtypes of lung cancer depending on the size of the cancer cells: Small Cell and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.
Lung cancer treatment usually combines one or more of following: surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy.
ASCI is a new approach to immunotherapy, combining a cancer specific antigen (called MAGE-A3) and a specific immune reaction booster (called an Adjuvant System).
A large scale clinical study, called MAGRIT involving approximately 2.300 patients in 400 centers worldwide started recently. The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and effectiveness of ASCI in the treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer after an operation to remove the tumor.
